My
discoveries
Austria allowed me to discover a new way of learning. I did not know what to expect going in Austria. I was very well received by teachers and students of the school.
The week I lived in a studio of agricultural high school and on the weekends I went to the home of a student of the high school to visit the city and help him with the seasonal agricultural work.
Austrian farms are not so different from French firm set apart the average size is higher in France for cropland.
There are also more direct sales in Austria to to increase income from the the land.
The lifestyle of the Austrian farme is slightly different from that of a French peasant.
- The schedules are not the same: Austrian farmers get up earlier that French farmers.
- It is not uncommon to find a tractor parked in a supermarket car park or to take tractor to fetch beers in the city: it is a different way of life but friendly.
My stay in Austria was very rewarding intellectually, technically and especially humanly.

My discoveries
I was not sure what to
expect going in Austria. I was very well received by teachers and
students of the school.
Austria has introduced me
to a new way of student learning.
The week I was
living in a studio in the agricultural high school and on the
weekends I went to a home of high school student to visit the city
and helping him in agricultural seasonal works.
Air travel
has geatly influenced me: I could see through the window of the
airplane beautiful landscapes but also the German nuclear power
plants producing thick smoke, the beautiful austrian mountains with
their snow-capped peak then rolling landscapes.
Country and
suburbs roads of the city of Graz are narrower than those we found in
France in general.
Austrian farms are
not so different from the French farms in their operations. As
against the average farm size is less than in France.
There are also more
direct sales of farm products in Austria to earn more income from
land.
The lifestyle of the
Austrian farmer is slightly different from that of a French peasant.
The schedules are
not the same: Austrian farmers get up earlier than French farmers.
- It is not uncommon
to find a tractor parked in a supermarket car park or to fetch beers
with the tractor in the city: it is a different way of life but
friendly.
From a social point
of view the French do not have a very good reputation: we are seen as
proud people and even contemptuous toward strangers but most
Austrians recognize that our food is very good.
The German
influence is very present in Austria: at every intersection a BMW or
a Mercedes, Volkswagen etc are crossed for example, etc. ...
Religion remains
quite present whether in families or even in public schools. We often
see a cross or other religious symbols (paintings, statues of the
Virgin) although there is no religion classes in public high schools.
People see this as a sign of protection to their family and friends!
Students in their
final year in high school sometimes come in tractor to school then
they will go to work in the fields.
The traditional
dress is quite essential in some social circles. It may even replace
the suit and the tie in some occasions. Young people remain quite
attached to their traditions.
Austria does not
have the sea or ocean. There are only well-appointed lakes where all
young people get together on weekends.
L' Autriche m'a
